The patient should consult a doctor before taking the medicine, if the patient has hyperoxaluria (an excessive excretion of oxalate in the urine) or a condition known as glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency.
When should the patient consult a doctor: If the symptoms persist or worsen after a few days of taking the medicine, or if the patient believes that he/she is experiencing an adverse reaction to the medicine, it would be best to consult a doctor as soon as possible.
